Women in Cybersecurity - Callie Guenther

Senior Manager, Cyber Threat Research, Critical Start

What inspires you in your current role? I’m inspired by the ability to bridge intelligence and cybersecurity. Translating raw data into actionable insights that improve detection, response, and strategic decision-making. Cyber threats are always evolving, and I enjoy the challenge of staying ahead, helping organizations anticipate risks before they become crises.

What do you enjoy most about your company or role? I thrive at the intersection of cyber and intelligence. Connecting deep technical expertise with strategic analysis to drive meaningful security outcomes. Whether it’s tracking emerging threats, refining detection strategies, or shaping long-term security approaches, I enjoy working in a space where intelligence isn’t just about reporting, it’s about action.

How did your journey into cybersecurity begin—was it a twist, a calling, or a leap of faith? It started as a safe move, I began my career in IT while serving in the military. Then, I was put on a new intelligence system and had to learn intel from the ground up. That twist in my path opened up a whole new world for me. I quickly fell in love with the dynamic nature of intelligence work, and over time, it became my calling. Cybersecurity was the perfect evolution of that passion, where intelligence and operations meet.

What do you like most about cybersecurity? The ever-changing landscape. No two days are the same, and there’s always a new challenge to solve. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect, turning intelligence into something practical that defenders can use. Cybersecurity requires a mix of deep technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and adaptability, which keeps it exciting.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #AccelerateAction. What does that mean to you? For me, #AccelerateAction is about making intelligence more impactful, mentoring the next generation of analysts, improving how intelligence informs cybersecurity strategy, and ensuring that insights don’t just get collected, but actually drive business decisions. It’s about pushing intelligence beyond reports and making sure it plays a critical role in shaping security outcomes.

If you could give your younger self a piece of career advice, what would it be? Trust your instincts and take ownership of your career. The best opportunities often come from unexpected places, so stay adaptable and be willing to take on challenges outside of your comfort zone. And most importantly, find people who will challenge you, push you, and help you grow.
